What Is Nakshatra Compatibility?
In Vedic astrology, the 27 Nakshatras (lunar mansions) are the Moon’s 27 dwelling places as it travels through the zodiac. Each Nakshatra carries a distinct energy, deity, nature, and set of characteristics.

Yoni compatibility principle: Same yoni = best instinctual harmony. Friendly yoni = good natural ease. Enemy yoni (e.g., dog and cat, snake and mongoose) = instinctual friction that requires conscious navigation.
The Tara Kuta: Counting Stars
One of the most important compatibility factors in Nakshatra matching is Tara Kuta — assessing the “star count” from one person’s Nakshatra to the other’s.
Count from the woman’s Nakshatra to the man’s, then divide by 9 and note the remainder:

Which Nakshatras are most compatible for marriage?
There’s no single ‘most compatible’ pair — compatibility is assessed across multiple dimensions. That said, same-Gana matches (particularly Deva-Deva) with friendly Yoni combinations and high Tara Kuta scores create the most naturally harmonious foundations.
My Guna Milan score was low (below 18). Should we not marry?
The Guna score is one factor among many. Low Guna Milan can be significantly offset by: strong 7th house in both charts, compatible Venus placements, good Navamsa compatibility, and the overall chart-to-chart synergy. Many successful marriages have low Guna scores. A complete compatibility assessment looks beyond the number.
How is Nakshatra compatibility different from Sun sign compatibility?
Sun sign compatibility (comparing Aries with Sagittarius, etc.) is Western astrology’s simplest compatibility tool. Nakshatra compatibility is far more specific — your Moon’s exact position in one of 27 Nakshatras is a significantly more precise indicator of your inner nature than the Sun’s position in one of 12 signs.
Can Nakshatra compatibility be improved through remedies?

Is Nakshatra compatibility the same as Rashi (sign) compatibility?
Related but distinct. Your Rashi is your Moon sign (one of 12). Your Nakshatra is the specific lunar mansion within that sign (one of 27). The Nakshatra carries additional information about the quality of your Moon — its deity, nature, animal symbol, and planetary ruler — that the Rashi alone doesn’t capture.
